The ridge and verges take a battering from the wind, and the old approach of bedding them on mortar has a weakness, mortar cracks, lets water in and eventually lets ridge tiles slip. In exposed spots that becomes a safety issue as well as a leak.
A dry ridge system screws each ridge tile down to a batten with a ventilated union strip, so the ridge is held mechanically rather than glued on with mortar. It resists wind uplift, ventilates the roof and does away with the cracking and repointing that mortar needs. We fit dry ridge, dry verge and dry valley systems, and they meet current British Standards for mechanical fixing.
